Sajad Lone reviews implementation of Juvenile Justice | KNO

JAMMU, JANUARY 24 (KNO) : Minister for Social Welfare, Sajad Gani Lone, today chaired a review meeting here to take stock of implementation of Juvenile Justice System and programmes for youth in the state. Chief Secretary B B Vyas, General Secretary, Prayas Juvenile Justice Aid Centre Society and former DGP, Shri Amod K Kanth, Principal Secretary Home, Principal Secretary Finance, Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Special DG CRPF, Special DGP, PHqrs, J&K, Administrative Secretaries of the Departments Rural Development, Social Welfare, Education, IT, Tourism, Director State Judicial Academy, Mission Director- ICPS, Mission Director, Skills Mission and other senior officers attended the meeting. Shri Amod K Kanth gave a brief presentation on the various aspects of the Juvenile Justice System and roadmap for improving the lives of children and youth in the state through collaboration and convergence of efforts of various stakeholders including NGOs. Stressing that children are key stakeholders in peace and prosperity of state and their dignity needs to be upheld, the Minister for Social Welfare underscored the urgent need to focus on preventive strategies to ensure that children do not fall in any harmful practice. ‘This is more important than normal curative approach to the children in conflict with law or children in need of care and protection’ he added. The Minister asked for preparation of a comprehensive roadmap for protection of children with proper services that will create an enabling environment for children in the state. Detailed deliberations were held in regard to the interventions needed in order to provide fillip to the skill development of youth and assisting them to engage in gainful activities for their better future and to have a fulfilling life.(KNO)
